O For That Day | New Worship CD

Enfield_2 One of the best CD’s we have heard in awhile is the one currently playing on our iPod.  The band, called Enfield, played at this year’s RESOLVED Conference where they led worship for the assembly.  The unusual name comes from the town in Massachusetts where early American pastor (and former President of Princeton University) Jonathan Edwards preached the famous sermon"Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God."

Led by Ryan Foglesong and David Zimmer, students at the Masters College in southern California, the indie-rock-worship album is surpringly well done for a band not widely known.  The music features a blend of musical styles and strong guitars enhanced at times by a backup female voice reminiscent of Casting Crowns.  The words of the songs themselves are powerful, deep and thoughtful.  Our favorite, both musically and lyrically, is "O For That Day," a rocking and driving yet poignant song speaking to the longing in the Christian heart for heaven.  Virtually every song touches on that theme, enhancing our desire for that place God’s children will spend eternity with Jesus.

Other songs on the CD include new twists on hymns, including "Wondrous Love" and "Fairest Lord Jesus."

Resolved Music, from whom you can purchase the album and listen to short clips of each cut, describes it as an "album that seeks to set your heart and mind on the day that we will worship God perfectly in heaven forever! …an indie-rock album that offers brand-new worship songs along with fresh arrangements of timeless hymns."
