Witnesses of the Light

The other day I was reading in the book of John and something caught my eye about they way John the Baptist carried himself. Check out what John 1:1-8 says.

“In the beginning the Word already existed. He was with God, and he was God. 2He was in the beginning with God. 3 He created everything there is. Nothing exists that he didn’t make. 4 Life itself was in him, and this life gives light to everyone. 5 The light shines through the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
6 God sent John the Baptist to tell everyone about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. 8 John himself was not the light; he was only a witness to the light. 9The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was going to come into the world.”

One of the coolest things about John the Baptist is that his life was never ever about himself. Everything that John the Baptist did pointed directly at the person Jesus Christ. Wow! Scripture is clear to point out that John was not the light, he was only a witness to the light.

You know, there is nothing special about you or I just because we are on stage. We are not the Light! We are not the show! We are not the main attraction! You and I are there for one reason and one reason only. To point to Jesus Christ! We like John the baptist, are simply there to be witnesses of the LIGHT.

What an example John the Baptist is for us. It is my prayer that we will worship Jesus Christ in a manner that points people to Jesus. We must testify of what He has done!
