New books from John Piper

On December 18, John Piper’s latest book, When the Darkness Will Not Lift: Doing What We Can While We Wait for God–and Joy , will be published.  From Crossway:

Even the most faithful, focused Christians can encounter periods of depression and spiritual darkness when joy seems to stay just out of reach. It can happen because of sin, satanic assault, distressing circumstances, or hereditary and other physical causes. In When the Darkness Will Not Lift, John Piper aims to give some comfort and guidance to those experiencing spiritual darkness.

Readers will gain insight into the physical side of depression and spiritual darkness, what it means to wait on the Lord in a time of darkness, how unconfessed sin can clog our joy, and how to minister to others who are living without light. Piper uses real-life examples and sensitive narrative to show readers abundant reason to hope that God will pull them out of the pit of despair and into the light once again.

We also recently we had the opportunity to read galley proofs for John Piper’s next new book,  Battling Unbelief , due out in February.  An abbreviated version of Piper’s thick volume entitled Future Grace, we’re happy to see this book available in an abridged format for those who don’t read fast or aren’t yet ready for an in-depth study.   Also available will be a DVD and group study guide.  From publisher Multnomah:

You have the faith that first saved you. But now you struggle to apply that faith in everyday circumstances. You are battling unbelief, fighting lies with the purifying power of God’s truth. Popular pastor and bestselling author John Piper will equip you to live by faith in future grace and demolish the struggles that stem from anxiety, pride, impatience, bitterness, lust, and more. Use the multi-session DVD by John Piper, and the corresponding study guide developed by Desiring God, on your own or in a group to apply the faith-grounding truths from the book. And claim the peace that’s yours in Christ.
